Flat
Sound installation

An investigation in displacement…
This structure has, in effect, been turned inside out. The outside is denied to the viewer, except through local points were sounds leak in. Enclosing, sense of stillness and exclusion. This inverse space is lined, from ceiling to floor, with coarse wooden panels, each fixed to the floor by angled supports that jut inwards into the space. At intervals speakers were positioned on the flats, cones faced the walls, pointing outwards towards the exterior beyond. Emitting the surrounding exterior sounds back into the space, via microphones that lay beyond the internal space.
